Docu Talents from the East

Organised by the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Docu Talents from the East presents upcoming documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. Eight new feature-length creative documentary projects in production or post-production pursue appropriate market access points during CineLink to further their conversion and placement efforts. The selected projects are slated for release between September 2024 and November 2025.

Marek Hovorka

Born in the Czech Republic, Marek Hovorka graduated in documentary film studies at FAMU Prague (Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts), where he also taught a seminar on festival studies. He is the founder and director of the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, the leading European documentary film event and the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. The Ji.hlava film festival is renowned for its dedication to auteurs, experimental non-fiction cinema, and its innovative, originally-designed industry programs (Emerging Producers, Ji.hlava Academy, Festival Identity, New Visions Forum). Since 2022, Ji.hlava has been organizing the Conference on Ethics in Documentary Filmmaking, a platform for scholars, film professionals, and the general public to foster dialogue on ethical issues in filmmaking and stimulate research. Marek is also a co-founder of Doc Alliance, a partnership of seven key European documentary film festivals supporting the diversity of documentary filmmaking and its online distribution through DAFilms.com. He has served on juries at international film festivals such as FID Marseille, Taiwan International Documentary Festival, Cinema Verite Tehran, Visions du Réel Nyon, CPH, Torino Film Festival, and It's All True São Paulo, among many others. Marek is a member of the European Film Academy and the Czech Film and Television Academy.
