Is there a way to ensure sustainability for the indie sector within the streaming model? Given a context in which less IP is retained and there is uncertainty about the chance of creating libraries and rights’ exploitation, as well as project ownership, independent producers and funders discuss fair practice in the ecosystem involving streamers and content creators.

Christopher P. Marcich

Chris Marcich was appointed CEO of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) in 2019. He has been President of the Board of the AGICOA association of audio-visual producers and their collective rights management groups since 2013. Upon deciding to divide his time between Belgium and Croatia for personal reasons, Marcich was appointed President for International at the Motion Picture Association (MPA) in 2015 to assist with a transition within the association. He was responsible for coordinating MPA’s international offices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as Brazil, Canada and Mexico. He joined the MPA in 1995 and through 2014 was President in charge of MPA’s regional office for EMEA. The office’s principal areas of activity include work on legislative and regulatory issues related to the media sector at the national and European levels. Prior to joining the MPA, Marcich spent sixteen years working in the US Government on international trade issues as a negotiator and on shaping US trade policy. When he left the government in 1995, he was the Assistant US Trade Representative for Europe. Prior to that, he was appointed to the newly created position of Assistant US Trade Representative for Trade and Environment, when he pioneered efforts to integrate health and environmental principles with those of international commerce.

Lars Løge

Lars Løge is a former producer, having spent the last five years at the Norwegian Film Institute, first as a documentary consultant, the Head of Production and, as of September 2020 Head of Production and International Affairs. His areas of responsibility include developing regulations and schemes for the producing arm of the Norwegian film industry within all formats, including COVID-19-related schemes, to fulfill the goals of the Norwegian government.

Martichka Bozhilova

Martichka Bozhilova is producer at AgitProp in Bulgaria. Her high-end, author-driven films have been selected for and won awards at the Festival de Cannes, the Berlin International Film Festival, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, the Toronto International Film Fesival, the Sundance Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival and the Pusan International Film Festival, among many others, and have been broadcast all over the world. Among her productions are Touch Me Not, which won the Golden Bear at Berlin in 2018); the film and four-part television docu-series Palace for the People for ARTE, which was selected for DokLeipzig in 2018; Georgi and the Butterflies , which received the Silver Wolf at IDFA; The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories, which was presented at Cannes; Corridor #8, which screened at the Berlinale; Omelette, which was selected for Sundance; and The Boy Who Was a King, which screened at Toronto. Bozhilova has also produced successful factual television series for National Geographic and HBO, as well as Father’s Day, a high-end drama series for Bulgarian National Television and The Cars We Drove into Capitalism, which is scheduled for release in 2021.

Pauline Durand-Vialle

Originally from Paris, Pauline Durand-Vialle has worked in film distribution and international sales. She joined the Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA) after holding the position of Deputy Manager in Charge of European Affairs at La Société des réalisateurs de films (SRF), where she worked for five years. She has been Chief Executive Officer of FERA since 2014, and took over the European Audiovisual Observatory’s Advisory Committee Chair in 2020.

 

Alexandra Lebret

In 2002, Alexandra Lebret was appointed Managing Director of the European Producers Club. Since that time, she has driven the EPC into a new era and worked at transforming the association into the renowned institution it has become. Today, the EPC represents more than 150 film and television drama producers from Canada and thirty-two countries all over Europe. It is now the leading organisation of European independent producers. With its network of producers and the expertise it has developed over the years, the EPC has established itself as a principal interlocutor of the European Commission and several other industry players. Lebret has gained considerable expertise in the European audio-visual landscape and often shares her reflections on the industry at panels all over the world.
