SRĐAN VULETIĆ was born in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina and attended school in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the age of eighteen, he enrolled on the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, Department of Directing, where he directed three plays: Pirandelo's The Naked Life, Ionesco's The Leader and Buchner's Woyczek, as well as many student films and exercises. The 1992-1995 war in Bosnia interrupted his editing of the documentary THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. In the war, he joined a hospital crew as a medical technician, an experience that later inspired his film I BURNT LEGS (1993). Also, during the war, he produced a documentary film about eight Sarajevo artists and the exhibition they held during this period and which was later to become the official Bosnian entry to the 45th Venice Biennale. He directed the award-winning film HOP, SKIP, AND JUMP (1999) and his first feature-length movie, SUMMER IN THE GOLDEN VALLEY (2003).
I want to make a film that questions the mechanisms of a world in which an aggressive minority imposes its views on a passive majority. A film that warns of the dangers of that process. A film that questions how to stand up to an aggressive minority. We know this problem. It is real and ubiquitous. Especially here, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we can rightly say that entire nations were and remain hostage to the bad decisions of a small group at the head of those nations. When I say that, people immediately recognise the 90s of the last century, the time of wars related to the breakup of Yugoslavia. But we are witnessing that an aggressive minority persistently imposes unacceptable attitudes on entire societies and countries every day.
