When Daniel, a Romanian man who chose to convert to Islam, and his girlfriend Alexandra decide to get married, hell unleashes on them. Suddenly, nothing seems to be the same as before. Their friends start avoiding or cutting all ties with the couple, leaving them isolated. Hoping to find peace, Daniel and Alexandra start traveling around the world to find a new home, but all seem to be in vain. Moreover, their own needs to be understood and accepted by the other partner lead to huge conflicts, leaving the two lovers confused and emotionally crushed.

Feeling lost in a world that doesn’t seem to understand or accept them, Daniel and Alexandra must now fight for each other and their relationship to survive. Even if that means leaving behind their old dreams and everyone they’ve ever loved.

Director’s statement

If I was to find only one word which could describe the aesthetic the approach of this documentary, that word would be “transparent”. It's the the word which perfectly summarizes the two directing lines which I tried to follow, since the moment I started working on it. On the one hand, there is a certain rawness of it all. The camera can be very cruel sometimes and this is the case in many moments of this documentary. Using it not as an object, but as an invisible interlocutor who sees everything and gives it to the audience, the camera functions more like a therapist, than a device used for recording moments. It's intimate, intense, it doesn't try to cover up for anything, just shows everything as it really is, without judging. The second direction that comes with the word “transparent” is the personal one. “My Muslim Husband” was always intended to be a very personal film, and not just because, in this case, the directors and the characters are the same persons.
