How did co-productions influence not only financing but also creativity in the film industry? How are the players investing in co-productions repositioning in the global market? By looking at the success stories of British Film Institute, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation and the Italian Directorate General for Cinema, we try to answer these questions and open a fruitful discussion about future perspectives.

FARUK GÜVEN

FARUK GÜVEN started his career as an assistant producer in 2008 at News and Sports Department at TRT (Turkish Radio and TV Corporation). He produced more than 100 episodes news, sports, economy and documentary shows. Faruk graduated from New York Film Academy Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking. He produced and directed several short movies in Los Angeles. From 2014, he has been working for TRT Television Department as an executive producer. He has worked as an executive producer for more than 10 feature films, mini series and short films for TV. Now, Faruk continues his career as the Head of TRT Sinema at TRT. For three years, he is a jury member for International Emmy Awards in TV Films and Mini Series Category. He is selected as a member of TV Committee at European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for two more years and he is a member of European Film Academy.

IOLE MARIA GIANNATTASIO

IOLE MARIA GIANNATTASIO is responsible for international and legal affairs and for the research unit within the Secretariat of DG Cinema e Audiovisivo - MiC. Iole represents Italy to Eurimages, to the European Audiovisual Observatory and to EFARN – European Film Agencies Research Network. Iole is the author of several publications on audiovisual film industries and markets and she is a collaborator of the Film Magazine 8 ½ - numeri visioni e prospettive del cinema italiano. She was a member of the team established by DGCA for the administration of the new tax incentives for film industry in effect since 2009. From 2004 to 2009 she worked as media analyst at Cinecittà Holding S.p.A’s Osservatorio Italiano dell’Audiovisivo and then at Cinecittà Luce S.p.A.’s Centro Studi.

NEIL PEPLOW

NEIL PEPLOW has been helping major international organisations balance social and commercial sustainability for over 30 years. As Director of International and Industry Affairs at the BFI, he’s led growth and investment in the sector, increasing global awareness and distribution of UK content and talent. As CEO of Australia’s national film school, he established the Screen Diversity and Inclusion Network, helping investors, broadcasters and industry bodies realise the value of cultivating diversity. Bringing together his experience in commercial strategy, funding, public policy, innovation and education, Neil led the UK Skills Review commissioned by the UK Government in 2022. Neil’s passions are developing talent, education and generally making the world an easier place for everyone to navigate.

HAYET BENKARA

HAYET BENKARA is a French born, Toronto and Europe based Film Industry Advisor. She has worked 15 years for the Toronto International Film Festival, where she occupied a few positions including Manager of the unofficial Market. In 2012, she created and managed TIFF STUDIO, the first year-round training programme at TIFF for film professionals, and produced TIFF Talent Lab. Benkara worked for many prestigious film festivals such as Cannes (Producers Network), Berlinale, International Film Festival Rotterdam (Co-production market and CineMart), Dubai, Abu Dhabi International Film Festivals (UAE), The Doha Film Institute, Guanajuato Film Festival (Mexico), Era New Horizon (Poland), the Bosphorus Film Festival. In the past three years, she has been Head of Studies at the Open Doors Lab of the Locarno film festival, and Pitching Coach at the Atlas workshop of the Marrakech Film Festival. Most recently she has launched the new coproduction market at Festival du nouveau cinéma (Montreal). Benkara is often asked to conduct workshops on strategies and / or moderate panels on topics related to the film industry.
