HELA AFTER ALL

Zagreb, the summer of 2018. Small-town girl MARTINA's (27) and high school professor GRETA's (45) same-sex relationship is to become as deep as it gets - they're having a baby. The in vitro donor is Greta's brother NIKOLA, a homicide squad detective. It seems the loving couple faces a shining future, but during the stormy night of the football World Cup's start, Martina crashes her car into ANDRIJA, the finance manager of the Zagreb Archdiocese. Nobody witnessed it, so fearing the future of her unborn child, Martina flees. She doesn't disclose the accident to Greta, and Nikola leads the police investigation. As Croatia's footballers pave their way to the finals, the media reveal shady connections between the victim, a suspicious businessman, and the Zagreb's Mayor. Andrija's death triggers the power struggle within the Church that Cardinal VINKO has difficulty controlling, and the deceased's assistant ĐURO conceals his boss was involved in the prostitution chain. During the investigation, Martina and Greta go through an emotional crisis while Nikola and Martina embark on a secret love affair. After Martina confesses what happened, Greta asks Nikola to cover up her crime. However, it turns out Andrija didn't get hurt just by the car. Someone finished him after the hit. Is Martina a cold-blooded killer? Did she seduce Nikola to avoid prison? Đuro's gay affair and Cardinal's decisions lead, along with the football euphoria peak, the World Cup finals, to the unexpected closure. Andrija was murdered by a teenage girl Petra, with whom he held intimate meetings. But the discovery comes too late for Martina. Rejected by Greta, confronted with Nikola's distrust and believing the punishment awaits her, she decides to abort unborn HELA, whose voiceover guides us through the story.
