Young urban poets of the Brazilian favela in the city of Salvador. Their jeopardized youth. A film about non-material wealth, which becomes a source of unusual human power.
BRISA and GUAXI are a young couple of street poets who live in favelas of Salvador da Bahia in Brazil. They earn a living by performative interventions in the form of poetry and music in public transport spaces. They associate themselves with the art movement of Poets from The Marge, born in the sixties, a period of dictature in Brazil. They have only words for weapons. They want a revolution caused by social education, on their journey of fighting for basic human rights.
EDYTA ADAMCZAK / IMDB
EDYTA ADAMCZAK graduated from The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland in 2010 (Animated Film Studio headed by Jerzy Kucia). She is an author of short animated films. Her previous film EATSELF (2018) was screened at festivals worldwide, including DOK Leipzig, Hongkong International Film Festival, Krakow Film Festival, Guanajuato International Film Festival, Mecal International Film Festival, and Animage (Brazil). It received awards at the 25th Etiuda and Anima Film Festival and Green Festival in Krakow. Edyta teaches animation at the Polish – Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw (PJATK). She is a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association.
Director’s statement
Our main characters work with testimonies and metaphors that help to liberate social reality from stereotypes by penetrating into the fabric of its vibrating contemporariness and searching for a new mythology. Their experimental practice involves audiovisual, literary and musical media.
MICHAL MĄDRACKI
A graduate of religious studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Director, screenwriter, author of short literary forms, film producer. Since 2008, Michał Mądracki with Maciej Mądracki and Gilles Lepore create experimental films and video installations under the moniker of MML collective. Their works have been shown in contemporary art spaces and institutions as well as in major Film Festivals such as MoMA Docfortnight in New York, IDFA in Amsterdam (NL) or FID in Marseille (FR).
