Serial audiovisual works are probably the most watched and discussed content today. It is also the sector facing the most dynamic and accelerated evolution. What are the new drama initiatives in the European context? We gathered the biggest European companies to share their insights in the new drama tendencies and the new players to watch.

ANNA ROHDE

Before joining Germany’s distribution and production house Beta Film GmbH as Content Editor, ANNA ROHDE studied dramaturgy, philosophy and literature at Munich's Theatre Academy and at the LMU, Ludwig Maximilian University Munich. Before her studies, she was an assistant director in many national and international TV and feature film projects. Among others, Anna is member of Germany’s VeDRA (Verband für Film- und Fernsehdramaturgie e.V.), jury member of the International Emmy’s semi-finals and NEM’s writing contest.

EMMANUEL ECKERT

EMMANUEL ECKERT worked 15 years for M6 Group as a producer and as a buyer, where he was in charge of artistic selection for TV series and movies. He developed pre-acquisitions deals and produced many domestic works of fiction, as well as international co-productions. In 2011, he became a producer, first within Newen Group, and later establishing himself as an independent producer too. He has been director of acquisitions for Lagardère Studio Distributions since April 2018 and is now working for Mediawan Rights, the distribution arm of Mediawan, the first production company in France.

LOUIS BONNEAU

LOUIS BONNEAU joined CNC (French National Film Board) in 2020 to run the TV Innovation Fund, a selective public subsidy scheme geared towards French and international TV creators running scripted drama and animation projects. The fund includes 50K EUR grants for French and South-eastern European writers to co-write international co-production dramas. Louis previously held various positions in the French cultural cooperation network in Africa and Asia. As a film, TV and digital arts attaché at the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong from 2017 to 2019, he particularly supported French expertise in new film and drama initiatives. He holds an MA in lobbying from the Institute of political studies in Bordeaux and an MA in cultural management from King's College London.

MIRELA NASTASE

MIRELA NASTASE had joined ZDF Studios as Director Drama in 2016. She is responsible for the sale and acquisition of drama programs to customers in French-speaking and Central Eastern European territories. She holds a degree in Theater History and Theater Management from the National School of Theater and Film, U.N.A.T.C in Bucharest, Romania, furthermore a B.A. in Cinema and Contemporary Literature and M.A.s in Audiovisual Studies and Cinema History as well as Audiovisual Production and Multimedia from the University of Lyon, France. Mirela Nastase first worked in production companies such as OnStage Productions and La Vie est Belle Films Associés, France. In October 2011 she joined the sales team of the Munich-based Tandem Communications, later on being a Sales Manager at STUDIOCANAL TV, Munich, Germany / London, UK.

ALEX TRAILA

ALEX TRAILA is a consultant on European audiovisual policy. He has more than ten years of experience in the film industry and later in governmental affairs. Currently, he works as a policy advisor at Eurimages, Council of Europe’s Film Fund, steering the development of a set of measures dedicated to strengthening international co-production practices to increase geographically and topically diverse independent produced high-quality serial works. He has also contributed to several AV industry reports edited by the European Audiovisual Observatory, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe.
